Humidity is suffocating, makes us sweat and worst of all, it can be detrimental to our hair. Unless you’re going for the poufy and crimpy look of the 1980′s, then following these tips will help your hair stay smooth and straight this summer.
Don’t Forget Conditioner
Conditioner moisturizes your hair and will reduce the poofiness that humid air can cause. An article from Southern Living says, “Although it may seem counterintuitive, properly moisturizing your hair will actually help fight the effects of humidity.” It goes on to say that using a deep conditioner twice a week will help moisturize without weighing down hair. We recommend the Dry Remedy Moisturizing Masque.
Serums, Sprays, and Straighteners
Sometimes we need more than a weekly conditioning treatment. For those times, try a smoothing serum, a de-frizzing lotion, or a glossing straightener. These types of products are usually applied to damp hair. They are meant to defend humidity, prevent flyaways and straighten out kinks and curls. Try Aveda’s Smooth Infusion line for frizz-free and shiny hair. Many of the products are made with a plant blend that includes aloe and jojoba oil which help smooth down and seal the hair cuticle.
Pony Tails Are An Option
We may have conditioned and we may have straightened, but sometimes the humidity is just too strong. When all else fails, put it in a pony. Use a flat paddle brush to contain your locks and tie them back with a neutral rubber band, a neon scrunchie, or twist and pin that frizzy mess into a top knot bun. Finish it off with a few spritzes of Aveda’s Air Control hairspray, and it will be like humidity doesn’t affect you at all!
