Summer Hair

Summer is whole new ball game for women in regards to our hair. We might not have dry, static strands like we did in the winter, but humidity causes frizziness, hot temperatures cause more oils and the constant sun can cause fading. Below are some ideas and tips on how to maintain our hair during a heatwave.

Frizz: It’s hard to contain frizzy hair with just a style alone. So it’s key to prep your hair with defrizzing products even before it dries. Strands frizz up when they are dry. By infusing your hair with moisturizing products, it won’t suck the moisture out of a 100 percent humidity day. Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother defends against humidity for up to 12 hours. Layer that with the Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil, and you’ve got a foolproof humidity guard.

Sweat: The only way to avoid sweating in the summer is by staying indoors. And no one wants to do that. The problem isn’t that our hair is sweating. It’s our neck and scalp. It’s hard to avoid, but you can fix your hair so that it becomes less affected. For starters, keep your hair off your neck to allow any sort of breeze to come through. A low bun works, but a high ponytail is way more fun. Finish your look with Aveda’s Control Force hairspray to keep the frizz at easy and all your hair in place.

Fading: Fading only happens to women who color their hair. It happens naturally over time, but the elements can speed up the process. A lot of people like when their hair gets lighter in the summer sun, but if you and your stylist just achieved the perfect shade of caramel highlights, you don’t want that fading to a burnt orange after a long weekend at the beach. Color Conserve will be your best friend. Not just the shampoo and conditioner, but the Daily Color Protect will help keep your color bold and bright. The Daily Color Protect naturally locks in color and contains cinnamon bark and wintergreen that act as UV filters to prevent the sun from fading your perfect hue.

Oils: When the air is thick and the heat is never ending, our scalp is naturally going to produce more oil than it does in the winter. And it’s not going to dry up in Chicago’s humidity levels. The only way to fix oily hair is to deal with it. Use the extra moisture to your advantage. Just because our hair is oily doesn’t mean we have to wash it everyday. Use a paddle brush to pull your hair into a slicked back look. Emulsify a little Confixor in your hands then run through strands to add texture and hold. You can slick your hair back and  leave the ends straight and down. Or section a deep part for a dramatic look. Finish with Brilliant medium hold hair spray for extra shine. No one needs to know it’s oil.

Now all you need are a trendy pair of sunglasses and your favorite sunscreen, and you’re ready for the heat.
