This year’s MTV Video Music Awards show was quite eventful. From Kanye West announcing his 2020 presidential campaign to Nicki Minaj shooting snarky comments to host, Miley Cyrus, there was drama everywhere. All of this celebrity discord and cheer was only made better by some very fierce beauty looks.

What we saw a lot of:

Bangs. Fashion trendsetters and daredevils like Nicki Minaj and Kylie Jenner sported chunky sets of bangs. While both may or may not have been wigs, we fully support this statement look. It’s reminiscent of fall and the beginning of a new school year. The fringe on these ladies was sleek and matched their edgy, cat-like eye makeup while Kelly Osbourne’s lavender locks were in a softer ‘do. Her bangs were swept to the side, wavy and much longer. Fan favorite, Taylor Swift, also wore bangs, but hers were slicked to the side.

Deep parts: If you thought the middle part was making a comeback, you might rethink after last weekends red carpet parade of deep, deep side parts and voluminous roots. Selena Gomez wore her hair full and sultry with big, natural looking waves and curls and a side part. Another favorite, Cara Delevigne looked stunning with her statement, smokey eye and long, naturally wavy locks flipped to one side. Jillian Rose Reed wore an unexpectedly edgy look with a nude lip, smokey eye and rocker-like hair swept to one side and full of volume. See also, Tori Kelly, Charlotte McKinney and Greer Grammer for dramatic side swept hairdos.

Who we loved:

Demi Lovato killed it this year. Her short, choppy hair was slicked back into this summer’s trendiest wet look. She pulled it off with with a fresh face and loads of confidence.

We couldn’t help but love Lily Aldridge’s natural look. This was another popular style this summer: long, wavy hair and natural makeup. Lily turned it up a little with more eye makeup and a plunging neckline.

Zuri Hall’s look was classic and up-to-date at the same time, and we loved it! Her voluminous lob (long bob if you haven’t caught on) was styled with a slight wave and a side part of course. The dimensional pinkish, mauve color on her lips made her whole look current and was a necessary spot of color while not being too bright. Well done, Zuri!
