We know the term “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. Many of us often use this in our day-to-day lives by taking shorter showers, thrifting our clothes, and recycling as many things as we can. At Gordon Salon, we are taking this three-word term to the next level by hosting a charity event called Catwalk for Water (also known as a Trashion (Fashion + “Trash”) Show). Using recycled/ upcycled, donated, and gently used clothing and materials, stylists have taken their creativity to a higher degree by making garments out of all these items.
Models will strut their stuff in the Fields BMW of Northfield 700 W Frontage Rd, Northfield, IL 60093, on Saturday, March 29th at 8 pm wearing these beautiful pieces. A handful of our stylists have lovingly donated their time to create these beautiful garments as gorgeous models strut down the catwalk. High-fashion hair and dewy, glowy makeup are a must, really solidifying this charity event is one for the books!
The theme for the Catwalk for Water for 2025 is rebirth–a fresh spring renewal. Eco-consciousness meets water conservation. At Gordon Salon, we are aiming to create a conscious flow that enriches and empowers the local environment, which is created by little streams and little acts (like beach clean-ups) that form bigger waterways (The Alliance of the Great Lakes and all they do for the ecosystems).
Senior Master Stylist Holly Pistas, out of the Gordon Salon in Glenview, is organizing and facilitating the event this year. Please enjoy a little statement given by Holly Pistas about the Catwalk for Water!
“Ever since I started working with Gordon Salon, nearly 19 years ago, it sparked something in me to be more mindful of my actions. With Aveda’s environmental mission, and Gordon’s dedication to making a difference, I couldn’t help but be influenced to make small changes that can make a big impact on this planet of ours. Choosing to cloth diapers for my sons was a huge one. Not using disposable plastic baggies for my food, and using glass containers instead. Using a reusable water bottle instead of purchasing disposable plastic water bottles. All feasible changes that weren’t difficult to do, to positively impact the planet. This Catwalk for Water show is something near and dear to me. Seeing our team and community come together to make a difference, makes my heart explode. I’m so excited to celebrate this event with you!”
Highfashion-streetwear is the name of the game for the Catwalk for Water 2025. The garments will embody the elements of streetwear which originated in hip hop, surfing, and skateboarding culture. Fashion Week for the Spring/ Summer 2025 season is heavily focused on casual, chic-inspired clothing pieces. While you won’t catch the models in a hoodie or oversized jeans, there will be an artistic, urban facet in a lot of the garb Gordon Salon is presenting. Brands that are inspiring some of the looks for the catwalk are Kith, Palm Angels, Supreme, and AMBUSH.
Who is this charity for? Gordon Salon is raising money for The Alliance for the Great Lakes to help preserve our lakes (keeps drinking water clean, beach clean-ups, etc.) which is aligned with our environmental mission as a salon. The Alliance of the Great Lakes is a nonpartisan, nonprofit which helps all five of the Midwest’s stunning bodies of water! Our beautiful Great Lakes contain almost 20% of the entire world’s fresh surface water and about 90% of North America’s fresh surface water. Gordon Salon is trying to make a splash by helping to keep our waters and shoreline clean and healthy!
The Alliance of the Great Lakes has many ways to maintain and keep our fresh waters clean. Some of the initiatives, or campaigns, that the organization has created have been controlling invasive species coming into the ecosystem of the Great Lakes, fighting plastics and garbage floating around and getting consumed by wildlife, and having clean and viable drinking water. The Alliance also helps to maintain meaningful connections with local partnerships, keeping up with climate change, agricultural pollution, and the effects on the freshwater of the Great Lakes, and seeking environmental justice and integrity on behalf of the five massive lakes.
